How to upgrade Sitecore Managed Cloud Containers solutions to AKS 1.27


Description

The end of life of Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) 1.26 is March 2024. Sitecore Managed Cloud Containers solutions based on AKS 1.26 must be updated to a newer version that uses AKS 1.27. For more details on the end of life and consequences of deprecation of AKS refer to Microsoft FAQ.

This article contains upgrade instructions for the Sitecore Managed Cloud Containers solution to the version that uses AKS 1.27.

Breaking changes

Upgrading from AKS version 1.26 to 1.27 introduces no breaking changes to a standard installation of Sitecore Managed Cloud.

Note: For Sitecore 10.1–10.3, downtime might occur during the upgrade process.

Upgrade instructions

Follow this action plan to upgrade the Sitecore Managed Cloud Containers solution to the version that uses AKS 1.27:

  1. Download an upgrade package for the required topology and version from the storage. Here is the list of the available upgrade packages:
    • Sitecore 10.1.0:
      • mcc.xp.upgrade.10.1.0-r.0.1.352169.nupkg
      • mcc.xm.upgrade.10.1.0-r.0.1.352169.nupkg
    • Sitecore 10.1.1:

    • Sitecore 10.1.2:

  2. Install the upgrade package to your solution (follow the guidelines for Sitecore 10.1, Sitecore 10.2, or Sitecore 10.3).
  3. If the environment uses DR Managed Hot Standby, do the following (otherwise go to step 4):
    1. Download the AKS-127-upgrade-for-env-with-DR-Managed-Hot.zip package from the storage.
    2. Extract and copy the file from the downloaded package to the Infrastructure repo main branch.
  4. Run the Infrastructure pipeline.
  5. Run the Application pipeline.
  6. Run the check cluster upgrades pipeline.
  7. If the environment uses DR Managed Hot Standby, run the dr cluster version upgrade pipeline (Kubernetes_version 1.27.7 – select the latest available patch version received from the pipeline at step 6). Otherwise, go to step 8.
  8. Run the cluster version upgrade pipeline (Kubernetes_version 1.27.7 – select the latest available patch version received from the pipeline at step 6).
