Sitecore Managed Cloud Standard – Azure Resources Tiers Autoscaling

Description

Azure Resources Tiers Autoscaling is a service that Sitecore Managed Cloud Standard (MCS) provides to a client to automatically scale up and scale down the tiers of non-production resources within a time frame and fixed schedule.

An example of the typical scenario:

A non-production environment is often unused during the weekend. Therefore, Azure resources can be scaled down during that period and scaled back to their original tier when the working week starts.

The supported Azure Services are limited to:

There are two types of scheduling that Managed Cloud customers can opt for:

Considerations

  1. When an Azure Resource is on the lower tier, performance is impacted.
  2. The lowest tiers that MCS customers can opt for are subject to:
    1. Sitecore Managed Cloud Standard – topologies and tiers for Sitecore.
    2. Storage size.

How does this work

Tagging on resources

When the setup is completed, a few required Azure tags are added to the selected resources. These tags guide the scheduler and scaler about the following:

Scheduling example

With this setting, the selected resources are scaled down every Friday at 10 pm UTC and scaled back up every Monday at 6 am UTC.

With this setting, the selected resources are scaled down every day at 8 pm UTC and scaled back up every day at 6 am UTC.

Override Tiers Autoscale for emergency

MCS customers have the ability to override the Tiers Autoscale service. It can be disabled. Detailed explanation and steps are provided as part of the Service Request.
