Description

Some requests might fail with an unhandled exception while accessing Sitecore JavaScript Services (JSS) websites hosted in Azure Web Apps. The issue occurs in cases when the JSS application works in the Integrated Mode.

The issue affects JSS 14.0.0 and earlier versions.

Solution

To resolve the issue, consider one of the following options:

• Perform the following steps:
  
  • Upgrade Sitecore JSS to Sitecore JSS 15.0.0 or later.
  • Set the "ConnectFailureNodeRestart" property (defined in the Sitecore.JavaScriptServices.ViewEngine.Node.config file by default) of the "nodejs" rendering engine instance to "true" by creating a configuration patch file in the \App_Config\Include\zzz  folder.
    
    
• Download and install the  hotfix compatible with the affected product version found on this page:
  
  • For Sitecore XP 9.1.0 and JSS 11.0.0: SC Hotfix 470686-1 JSS 11.0.0 rev. 181031.zip
    Note that the value of the "ConnectFailureNodeRestart" property in the current hotfix is not inherited. Thus, if you add a new render engine instance configuration, you must explicitly define this property for the new render engine instance. In all other hotfixes, the value of the property is inherited from the "defaults" instance.
  • For Sitecore XP 9.1.1 and JSS 11.1.0: SC Hotfix 437483-1 JSS 11.1.0 rev. 190508.zip
  • For Sitecore XP 9.2.0 and JSS 12.0.0: SC Hotfix 429106-1 JSS 12.0.0 rev. 190522.zip
  • For Sitecore XP 9.3.0 and JSS 13.0.0: SC Hotfix-441556-1 JSS 13.0.0 rev. 190924.zip

  Be aware that the hotfix was built for specific Sitecore XP and JSS versions, and must not be installed on other Sitecore XP and JSS versions or in combination with other hotfixes. In case any other hotfixes have already been installed on a certain Sitecore XP instance, send a request for a compatibility check to Sitecore Support.

  The ZIP file contents need to be extracted to locate installation instructions and related files inside. The hotfixes must be installed on a CM instance and then synced with other instances using standard development practices.

  Note: the hotfix adds a new configuration property to the render engine instance called "ConnectFailureNodeRestart". The fix logic is enabled only if it is set to "true".
