How to migrate xDB Cloud 1.0 to 2.0

Description

This article describes the overall planning and execution of migrating an existing xDB Cloud 1.0 set to xDB Cloud 2.0.

xDB Cloud 2.0 comes with better stability and easier configuration. Refer to the following article for differences between xDB Cloud 1.0 and xDB Cloud 2.0: KB0373219.

The migration process requires architectural changes, so xDB Cloud is required to be offline during migration. At the same time, migration does not involve data loss, so all collected data will be preserved.

Note: Migrating xDB Cloud 1.0 to 2.0 does not cause a related Sitecore XP version change. To upgrade the Sitecore version used in xDB Cloud, refer to the following documentation: KB0495713.

Solution

To initiate the migration of an xDB Cloud 1.0 set to a newer version, use the following process as general guidance:

  1. The customer contacts Sitecore Support to request migration. The migration date, timeframe, and exact workflow must be negotiated within the support ticket.
  2. At the scheduled timeframe, the customer disables xDB Cloud on the production instance.
  3. Sitecore Support starts the migration procedure.
  4. While xDB Cloud is disabled, the customer installs a compatible xDB Cloud 2.0 client (refer to the  compatibility table).
  5. Sitecore Support notifies the customer after the migration is completed and provides connection details for xDB Cloud 2.0.
  6. The customer adjusts the Sitecore XP configuration according to Connect to xDB Cloud 2.0 documentation.
  7. The customer enables xDB Cloud again.

Note: If you do not have a valid Sitecore certification, you must contact your Sitecore Implementation Partner to register the support case for you. If this is not possible, contact your Sitecore representative to access the Sitecore Support portal.
