Description

When using the ECM module, it is necessary to make sure that the Message Item and other related content are published before the dispatch of an email message.

When a message is dispatched without publishing the Message Item, the following functionality might be unavailable: 

• Hyperlinks in the message body are not working (Page not found error is returned)
• Message analytics data (such as Open Rate, Clicked Through) are not collected
• The online version of the message is not available

Solution

To make ECM automatically publish all relevant items when dispatching a message, apply the following solution:

• Download one of the following patches depending on the ECM module version:
  
  • For ECM 1.1-1.3 – Sitecore.Support.388644 (ECM 1.1-1.3).zip
  • For ECM 2.0-2.1 and CMS 6.6.0-7.1 – Sitecore.Support.388644 (ECM 2.0-2.1).zip
  • For ECM 2.1 and CMS 7.2 – Sitecore.Support.388644 (ECM 2.1 CMS 7.2).zip
• Install the patch as a regular Sitecore package.
• When necessary, configure the list of database names that are used by the publishing targets in the /App_Config/Include/Sitecore.Support.388644.config file:

  <setting name="ECM.PublishOnDispatchTo" value="web|pub|…" />

• In the package for ECM 2.1 and CMS 7.2 you can configure additional parameters for the installed /sitecore/system/Workflows/Analytics Workflow/Deployed/Auto Publish item according to the Auto-Publish Workflow Action Updates blog post.
