TaxCloud Sales Tax Calculation Service

Four51 built an integration to the TaxCloud system to provide customers a more granular option for applying sales tax on orders. The integration supports product and jurisdiction level rates and because the system passes the full destination address, there are no cross-over zip code issues. The TaxCloud interface allows you to view orders and the tax rate(s) that was applied to the order. TaxCloud supports U.S. addresses only.

TaxCloud offers automatic tax remittance in 25 states. As of March 2020, if you sign up for the auto-remittance program there is no cost for the TaxCloud system. If you have nexus in states other than the designated 25, then the cost is per transaction/call from Four51. There can be multiple calls per order on 2.0 sites. (Calls are made when order-save occurs. Order-save happens at various points during the order process, so for a normal ordering workflow, TaxCloud may be called 3-4 times depending on how many line items are on an order. If the user goes back and forth from products to the checkout process, additional calls are possible.)

Similar to our credit card integrations, you will need to sign up for a TaxCloud account by contacting them. Four51 charges a one-time setup fee of $895 upon completion of the TaxCloud configuration setup on Four51.

Enablement
If you decide to move forward with the TaxCloud integration, you will need to sign up for an account with TaxCloud and then provide the following information to Four51:

Necessary TaxCloud Fields:
TaxCloud Api Key:
TaxCloud Api Login ID:
TaxCloud Default TIC: (Example: 00000)
TaxCloud Shipping TIC: (Example: 11010)
Origin Address 1:
Origin Address 2: (optional)
Origin City:
Origin State:
Origin Zip:

For security purposes, please put all of that information into the Onetime Secret and provide us with just the OneTime Secret URL

If you need to implement product-level tax, you would need to find the appropriate TIC (Taxability Information Code). TICs are 5-digit codes you assign to products that may receive special tax treatment. For example, many states apply special sales tax rates to food, clothing and medicine. To support TICs, you create a Four51 Storefront static spec in a specific way and Four51 will pass that TIC with the transaction to TaxCloud. If you do not have a TIC on the product, Storefront passes the Default TIC that you have specified in your configuration on Four51.

TaxCloud Static Spec Setup:
Static Spec Group Name: TaxConfig
Static Spec Name: TaxCloud_TIC
Static Spec Value: Taxcloud TIC code (Example: 90101) Show to user: False Text Static Spec

You can enable the TaxCloud integration on a per-buyer basis on the Sales Tax Companies page of your Four51 Admin interface.
