Definitions
Points: buyer-users use earned or awarded "points" instead of currency as a payment method.
Plateau: a type of Rewards program often based on years of service or goal achievement. Buyer-users (often employees) have access to certain products based on reaching a certain level or
plateau.
Discussion
- A points "theme" is available in Storefront 1.0. The theme simply hides the currency symbol, so this approach works well when 1 point = 1 dollar
- In Storefront 2.0 the same principle applies -- 1 point = $1 -- but some light programming is needed to edit the currency label
- A single buyer-site is either currency or points
- Another popular approach uses Spending Accounts as the payment method
- A more advanced implementation involves making real-time calls to a 3rd-party system (e.g. BrandMuscle) to retrieve a point balance and inform the user if the contents of his cart are covered by the balance or if a second payment method is needed
- A "plateau" site restricts product visibility by some established criteria, like years of service or sales volume. In the system, this is handled using category-to-group assignments
