If the "Use Tax Web Service" tax method is selected for a buyer company, the tax will be calculated real-time by the Strike Iron service Four51 utilizes.
Steps to enable and configure the Tax Web Service for a buyer company:
- Navigate to the Sales Tax Companies page on the Admin interface under the "Admin" top navigation tab.
- Choose "Use Tax Web Service" from the Tax Method drop-down.
- Click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.
- Click on the link that now appears for that buyer company on the page labeled "Edit Nexus."
- Move the states to which you have to charge sales tax in the "Active States" text area using the right arrow button (Hold the Ctrl or Shift key on keyboard to select multiple states).
- Click on the "Save" button once the appropriate states are set as Active States.
Troubleshooting Tip: Tax will only be calculated for products that have "Apply Tax" enabled in the price schedule of the product. If tax is not being calculated on an order, the most likely cause is that "Apply Tax" is disabled for the product(s) on the order. The other likely cause is the state of the shipping address does not exist as an active state nexus.
Integration between Four51 and Strike Iron:
- The buyer user selects a shipping address on the Shipping page of the check-out pages on the Buyer interface and clicks "Continue."
- The Four51 site checks the state of the shipping address. If it exists as an active state, Nexus and the "Apply Tax" price schedule setting is enabled for the product, then the zip code (first five numbers of the zip) of the shipping address will be sent to Strike Iron.
- Strike Iron passes the tax amount back to Four51 for the line item(s) based on the zip code of the shipping address.
- The Four51 site adds the tax amount for all line items and the total appears on the order as the tax amount
